Allegheny River with Red Childress 7-13-08

I want to thank Barry for taking me on this trip. We hit the water by 4am, jump on the Red’s boat.. we started out casting topwater, no takers. There was a thick fog that comes off the Kinzua Dam and works it way down river. We worked down river with the fog trying to extend the morning bite…at around 9am Barry had a mid 30” fish come in a jerkbait. Fish darted off at the boat. We fished rest of the day throwing deep divers, twitch baits, rubber baits and even trolled for an hour while eating lunch. No other fish sighted.

I also want to thanks Red Childress for a great day on the water, even though no fish were caught. I got to pick his brain a little and learned a lot. He is a VERY knowledgeable guide who knows this River probably better than anyone else in the area. He thoroughly explained every spot we fished so I could visualize what we were fishing, like I knew the spot and I was able to make a good choice of what lure would work best for the area. I also was very impressed with this river. It has so many nice looking holes with some awesome cover. We saw so much activity on the river in the morning while it was overcast and foggy that it looked like the river was alive.. Seemed as soon as the sun came out everthing died.

I know I will be back and will be going back out with Red to learn even more. I highly recommend Red as he has the knowledge, and unbelievable boat, and awesome equipment!

Here are some pictures from the trip. I hope I don’t give out any secret as we all know we can’t share any info.

I've got a mixed night/day trip booked with Red on the 3rd and 4th of August. Can't wait, would certainly like to hook my first fish on that trip. 😉

Sebastion, it was great time, I'm glad you came along! We fished HARD for 10 hours and only had the one follow. Red is a great guide and I would recommend a day in his boat for anyone. Red, if you're reading this, THANK YOU! I truly enjoyed it.

I must say that the most "interesting" part of the trip was flying down the river in the pitch black before dawn without lights of any kind. 😮 Red knows the river like the back of his hand and proved it to me!
I am looking forward to going back. Only 4.5 hours by fast car! ::)

I thought you might find traveling in the dark at 40mph a bit amusing......... ;D

Anyway, I am glad you guys enjoyed the outing. I did all I could and so did you........maybe next time.

Good fishing---Red

Way to go guys! I know you had to have had an incredible experience. And to get the chance to do it with a proven guide makes it all the better. And I'm sure flying down the river in the dark was exhilarating! I get nervous going across Lake Wallenpaupak in the dark! And Seb, I really liked your last statements!!! 😉

Musky Ed

I fish because I can't hear my wife from the boat!!!

Plenty of room, very stable. You will enjoy your time in the boat.
