Its winter the waters cold, if you are going to fish the open water this winter,

I was thinking the same thing.

ITS NOT THE SIZE OF YOUR BOAT
ITS THE SIZE OF WHATS ON YOUR BUMPBOARD!

Matt has a good point.

Once immersed, the average man's clothing weighs about 110 lbs. Trying to get into a boat with an extra 110 lbs. and arms and legs that are nearly useless because they are completely numb is almost impossible. Your life vest is only the first part of your rescue plan. I've got a small, stainless steel folding ladder mounted to the transom. With that and the help of a fishing partner, I've got a chance.

If your fishing partner is in the water, don't waste time trying to get him into the boat unless you are a long way from shore. Most of us would not be able to lift between 250 and 400 lbs of dead weight over the transom of a boat. Without a ladder, your best bet is to tie the guy in the water to the boat (use a strong rope and a good tie down, his life depends on it) and drag him to shore.

Have a plan, and discuss it with your partner prior to leaving the ramp.

Hey,

Good advice Matt and Dieter. The last thing any of us want is to read a post on here of one of the club or a valued fishing partner not making it home after a day of fishing. Thanks for the reminder.
