I spoke with Hugh Carberry today,South Jersey regional biologist, about the Cooper river. Its not the Cooper river they would like to stock, its the Cooper river park lake.A 200 acre lake with a very healthy gizzard shad population.Cean, quite and safe inside Cooper river park. Its an electric only lake and there are many bass tournies held on it with no problems.Does this lake sound familiar.{mercer}The one issue is it has a polution problem and fish consumtion would be bad.{you were right mike kopp}The solution,CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY.Its not a definite, but with a letter of interest from us it could be pushed through.Next would be the stocking of the lower delaware.I suggested if they could hold the fish over till june or july that might help with survival rate.A bigger fish that would be stcked after the bulk of the stripers return down the river.{does anyone know when that occurs}In order for that to even make it to Hughs desk a letter of interest needs to be sent.Done.Things are looking great for South Jersey muskie fishermen. Now PA.The most importent thing we can do as of now is to make sure we have good numbers to float stock our fish in the fall. The other stuff we are working on.{slowly}Bob Jones

bob-
there are two poplutions of stripers in the river. residents and migrating.
migraters come enter the river system in the spring to june and most leave once they spawn. some linger in the nursery area (tidal region) til the shad and herring fry go back to the ocean in the fall. No way to deal with the residents.
i would stock them in the tributaries like neshaminy creek, rancocas etc... and let them filter into the system as they grow. at least that gives them a chance. Imagine throwing a youngster into New York city??? They will never make it. Why put a small muskie into the giant Delaware river! RThe lower delaware was an excellent muskie fishery when i was growing up back in the 80's. Now it sucks!
my nickels worth for the day
