Where is Georgian Bay- I'm quitting work and scheduling a trip. This damn fish is bigger than me. What's the record anyway- I heard there's some mystery behind it.

Hey Matt,
As close as I can find it is a 67&1/2 pound musky caught back in 1949. The pic that you had a link to didn't give much information on where or when that fish was caught. But there was one reported back in 1991 that has since been disqualified as there were a lot of lies found to have been told about that fish. Just my 2 cents worth.

I have an article in my hand that i was reading today. It is written by Larry Ramsell who is a muskie historion, and researcher. That fish was caught on georgian bay,a place some say the next world record will come from.Known for its HUGE fish.It was caught in the early 1990's.It was never measured or weighed.Caught before the season opened,it was estimated in the 60lb range and released after a few photos.Bob

Take a closer look at that picture .5ft 6inches I don't think so. But if you look at some of the pigs caught up there this year and past years ,you'll see very thick fish. I've fished the moon river area of GB and the fish run heaver then average . It can also be some tuff fishing up there as well , so your best bet is to hire a guide . Don't forget to bring some smallmouth gear as well ,I think they average about 5lbs as well .

NJMatt:
I don't know if anybody actually mentioned that the Georgian Bay is basically the entire NE shoreline of Lake Huron and is one of the few places with a snowball's chance of producing a new world record. A few years ago there was a documented 60-ish pounder caught there, and one of the current world records (depending who you ask) came from there at 65 pounds. It's not too far if a drive from NJ for a week's worth of trophy fishing.
I've never been there, but it is trophy fishing rather than numbers fishing. A lodge owner from there said: "you'll only get a chance at a few muskie during a week, but at least one of those will be the biggest fish you ever saw."
