!!!! MI 50 TOURNAMENT !!!!
JUNE 10, 2006
Belmont, Prompton, and Lower Woods
Please respond here if you can make it. Also if you know which lake you'd like to fish mention that also. There will be a $ 25.00 entry fee. Pre-registration will be required. I'll look into getting a registration form up on the site in the next week or two. We'll be having a picnic and lure raffle afterwards at Prompton Lake. Everybody can bring one item for the picnic. I'll be starting a post on the food list that way it's clear who'll bring what.
There are no prizes for winning, just bragging rights. Everyone will walk away with something from the raffle. This will be a great time. Hope to see everyone there.
Any questions call Damian (215) 778-7138
If you have questions about the lakes we are fishing give a shout to Musky Ed on the message board. He's the man up there.

The Berserker and I will start on Lower Woods. We'll see if we end up there. All three lakes are within a 15 to 20 minute drive of each other. Are we going to be required to fish only one lake?! Another topic for discussion. Hope we don't have a tie vote on it!!! ;D

I'm 140.1 away from 9.9 but do the same rules apply as per PA state parks?
As long as my outboard prop is out of the water can I stick with a casting strategy and get around via my trolling motors.
If the logistics work out that I can use my boat, I'm in. Is the $25 entry fee per team or per person?

Opti,
You'll be able to use your kicker, or your electric, under the PA State rules.
The fee is $25. per person. There will be a raffle afterward, and everyone will leave with at least a lure.
I'm going to be joining Joe T. on his Muskie Hummer.

I'm in. I have no clue as to which Lake I want to fish since I have never fished any of them. I am also looking for a partner to fish with. (It is tough netting all those fish alone). I plan to drive up on Friday morning and fish Fri, Sat and Sunday.
What are the topology of the three lakes ...I don't like corp of engineer lakes (liek Blue Marsh) that rise and fall heavily making it real hard to find structure. Also, I am surprsied there is not a plaque or soemthing for a winning prize (not much money) and adds a bit of excitement. I have competed for really stupid things in my life ...and something small does give memories.

You might be surprised with Prompton (Army CorpLake). There are basically 2 halves to the lake. I'm more familiar with the upper half, which is where the boat launch is. There is a 20' deep trough running through the center, but up and down both shorelines, it's nothing but structure. I have a hydrographic map of Prompton. I wish I had something for Belmont and Lower Woods, but I don't. I have fished both of those lakes fairly well and would give info on them. Well, maybe not Lower Woods, since that's where I'll start the tourney!!! ;D I also have a map for Lackawanna State Park if anyone is considering camping there.

Ed- What is the structrue like on Belmont? Prompton does soudn good.
Eric- You asked Dan if he was still interested in a partner...were you referring to Dan (?) or me (my first name is Tom..posted jsut above with tgkfish) and I have only been to one Chapter 50 meeting..just joined.... so I am an unknown :>(
My boat is a 16 foot V bottom (tiller) built circa 1984 --rode hard and put away wet. But gets me around just fine with plenty of space. THe 9.9 kicker was just purchased used and goes but not real fast. I mostly fish Marsh creek which is all electric. So in a nutshell I am still looking for a partner.

If you are standing at the boat launch facing the water, off to the right are some flats next to a 20' channel. There are weeds, pads, trees down along the shoreline. This is also the end where the dam and spillway are. There's a really nice point coming out between the spillway and the dam. Facing the dam along the right shoreline is a nice weedy area and by the dam itself is a nice submerged weedbed on the right side. Deep water riprap along the damhead to the opposite side. Downed trees and points, small bays. Directly across from the boat launch you can see some big rocks by the shoreline. Sort of a steep drop along this area. I've caught smallies along here and read one post where someone caught a musky in this area. To the left of these rocks the lake swings into a big bay (cove), for lack of words. Weeds and pads along the shoreline and the water sort of drops off in steps to deeper water. Continuing up this shoreline are logs, shrubs, rocky bottom up into a log strewn cove, I've caught a lot of bass and pickerel along this shoreline and lost something big on a headshake. It came up out of the water (I only saw the back of the head) and shook and spit my lure! To the left near shoreline from the launch are primarily flats bordered by deep water. Some logs and weedbeds all the way up to where the stream comes in. I have seen small muskies up in this area. Hope this gives you an idea of the lake. Good luck and welcome.
