Biologist Mike Kaufmann offered me the following suggestion for stocking...
"I would key in on the shallow weed beds, but not stock them on the outer edges, as the outer edges are often where the bass, etc. wait. At the same time, I wouldn't take them any shallower than about 3 ft. because any shallower and they will be subject to great blue heron predation. We have had them stocked at our office a number of times and we have seen first hand the way that the herons take them to task. Remember, at this time of the year the heron density is higher than at any other time because juvenile herons migrate north before turning south. Thus, we see extra herons from the bays."
