I would like to know what the officers plans are for having representation at the Muskies Inc 2005 Muskie Symposium. It appears to me to be a rare opportunity to gather the latest research and management information for our area biologists, state officials, and the membership. The last Symposium was held 20 years ago, so it is not something you can easily dismiss and say, ‘maybe next year’.
Below is the link for details on the Symposium…

Hey,

I just got notification of said symposium this morning in an email from Scott Law, the symposium chairman. It seems to me, from what I was sent, that the format is already set for the symposium and the only thing that they are looking for from the chapters is a donation. While I have no problem with supporting this effort, I believe we were more or less left out of the planning and/or implementation of the various facets of the symposium. Now, this may be because we are a relatively new chapter, but it seems to me that we were kept out of the whole process and were only notified for financial support.
If other officers received notification prior to this date, then perhaps they have a better angle on this than I.

Hey,

Sorry, bad morning. Regardless, in direct response to your question Arch, there are no plans at this point to have representation at the symposium. It runs from October 28 through the 30th. After reviewing the information, contained in the link you provided, I think it will be a very informative time.
We can discuss at the April meeting the amount that the chapter wants to donate and if it is felt that we should have in person representation at the event.

I think this is more helpfull to the many fish and game people, including the people going from our state. There aganda is in this months muskie inc mag for all to read and i would bet there will be a follow up when its over. All info can be gotten threw our people in pa fish and game.I'm sure it would be very interesting to attend and if your offering to fly out to Indiana at your cost, get a motel room at your cost and your time, i would commend you for that.I'm sure i will have to work so i can continue to pay my bills in a timely fashon.I will keep in touch with our guys as i have today and try to keep everyone posted .Thanks,Bob Jones

I have the proceedings from the 1984 meeting, and it is amazing how much has changed since then. Judging from the abstracts, technology and science has progressed the fishery incredibly in the last 20 years. Sometimes it seems to me like PA is still learning the lessons from the 1984 meeting, so hopefully they will gain some new perspective from the 2005 meeting.
