Muskies, Inc. Region 3 Chapter Presidents & Representatives,
September 10th EC Telecom Report:
* The EC motion to act upon rescinding the motion put forward by Leo
Kofoot at the 2011 annual board meeting to suspend the Member's Only Fishing
Contest passed. A certified letter will be sent to complete a 'board action
without a meeting' to complete this endeavor. The subject will be
reconsidered and a much clearer and/or different motion may be presented for
the next annual meeting.
· The IRS process of re-instating the M.I. 501.C(3) tax exempt
status is ongoing. Thus far, this effort has actually resulted in M.I.
receiving a $278.60 refund from our 2008 tax returns. Unfortunately, the
audit firm that was hired and failed to prevent the loss of tax exempt
status also should have caught this mistake as well.
· The M.I. secretary now has the ability to process membership and
merchandise checks electronically almost instantly. This will help with the
cash flow of the organization because cashing and waiting for checks to
clear was delaying funds availability for up to 30 days.
· The Gil Hamm outing at Lake of the Woods was very successful with
106 participants and 99 fish being caught over the course of 2 ½ days. A
51.5" fish was the largest registered.
· The 2013 fundraising calendar is being prepared and Chapter dates
must be submitted by 30 September to ensure they make it into the printing.
In addition to the commemorative lure, a pewter holiday ornament is also
going to be offered this year as part of our fundraising campaign.
· M.I. received an award from the American Fisheries Society in
conjunction with Muskies Canada for our work supporting fisheries research
projects.
· The 2012 Youth Fishing Outing on Moose Lake in Hayward, WI is
being planned out and a full registration of 60 kids has been confirmed. The
water temperature are much higher this year than last, which hopefully won't
negatively impact the bite. It will be tough to beat last year's amazing
results. If anybody in Region 3 would like to learn more about coordination
of youth events, Kevin Bushnik is an incredible resource to tap into and is
extremely passionate about youth outdoor activities.
· Phase II of the M.I. website should be rolled out by the end of
this month and will allow real-time membership and member roster information
in the new format.
Region 3 Action Items & Member Drop List:
· In preparation for the upcoming Fall Regional Meeting, we need to
identify at least two candidates for Regional Representative positions. If
you or someone you know would like to make a difference and positively
impact the organization, please consider nominating them as a candidate.
· Membership lapses continue to be a major problem for the
organization. Attached is the list of member lapses that will occur within
the next 30 days. Please have someone from your Chapter contact these
individuals to remind them to renew or at least understand why they chose
not to renew their membership.
Region 3 News & Upcoming Events:
· Please remember to begin planning for the Region 3 Fall Meeting,
which will be held in the Akron/Canton, OH area on Saturday, October 20th
this year. There are some details regarding how to prepare for it in the
attached file. Most importantly, as mentioned above, we need to find at
least two candidates for RR positions. Also, please avoid scheduling any
meetings or outings for that weekend to ensure maximum participation.

Joel Johnson

Hey,

Is this International's tax exempt status? If so, what information has been disseminated to the the chapters concerning our responsibilities and/or restrictions? Thanks
