Call Report - week of 4/25:
Two conversations this past week with MI22 members Bruce Ruppel (MI22 Research Director) and Gordon Campbell (MI22 Vice President).
Summary of Information Shared:
Bruce Ruppel - Gave me insight into the State's stocking effort on Muskies. He gave a brief overview on the history of using Tigers as an introduction to Muskies as well as several case studies that convinced the State to use pure strain outright (Mercer success). Bruce also discussed the challenges facing the State on Muskie stocking (budgetary cutbacks and avian predation on the outdoor ponds). I invited Bruce to speak at one of our NJ meetings as he lives about 35 minutes from the SC (he seemed pretty psyched).
Gordon Campbell - Discussed the ongoing contributions of MI22 to the State. They are going to donate one net for the outdoor ponds (cost ~$2,500) as well as contribute monies for live food (~$500). Gordon highlighted the success of the guide for the day signup, however, warned that we need to continue to educate non / potential Muskie fisherfolks. He mentioned that he heard rumors of the PMTT looking at NJ as a possible tournament sight (real bad idea). Gordon thought our idea of constructing a Muskie info sign at Mercer was a great idea. Gordon also thought that any contributions we could make to the State direct for the Hatchery would be well received. Lastly, while we were on the phone I got him to take a spin through our website (he was very impressed - nice job Archie).
Conclusion:
Both Bruce and Gordon were positive and optimistic on our partnering and sharing of information. I will continue to push forward on the MI50 front with the State and hopefully, have another post shortly. <<<<><<<

ThanksDamian. Considering that I haven't heard back from the County park on night permits yet (e-mail and phone message) this may take a while. While I get the process going, if anyone has any photos of the bulletin board type structures at Monksville (or any others worthy of a look) send them my way. Thanks {0}}
