I saw on the Muskie First board that some guys list posts that ask different polling questions. I think it might be fun to do this in our club. We'll see the response!!!

Question 1:   What is your favorite body of water and why. For some it might be a local creek, for others a remote high profile lake. Tell us about your favorite fishin' hole.

For me it is clearly the Susquehanna River. It's big with many different areas to fish. It has big fish and good numbers. It is diverse with areas that are shallow and weedy and others that are deep and rocky. It is unpredictable and changes yearly. And for those of you who fish a little bass, it is a premier smallmouth fishery!!

There's mine, how about you!!

One more thing.........

My favorite body of water?

mmmmmm that's a tough one.

Let's see now... World class Trout in the upper reaches (Zane Grey himself wrote a book about this); an awesome spring trifecta of (in order of arrival) Shad, Herring, and Striper (up to 50 lbs.); Walleye in the winter; "50 Smallmouth" days in the summer; Crappies in the slack water of the lower river, along with enough Largemouth Bass to keep any Cooter Duke happy ;); White Perch in the brackish section; Black Drum, Tiderunner Weaks, Bluefish, Flounder, and Shark up to 300 lbs. in the bay.
Oh, and did I mention a pretty good Musky fishery too! <<<<><<<

Gotta be the Big D

I like the bodys of water i have to drive to.The cave may be top of my list after this march but untill then it would have to be chautauqua. Why? Its not a real far drive.6-7 hrs,i can do it after work on friday. That means i can plan it around a weekend with two or three work days and not have to take a whole week off.Its a numbers lake and a size lake. There are a ton of weed beds to cast, never hitting the same bed twice .The trolling options are endless.I've caught fish trolling shallow in the southern end, spinnerbaits over the weed tops and six foot deep over 60ft of water.I've gotten by biggest fish there and had my best day ever there.{two different days}.I have had some very tough trips though. My dad and i spent a week trolling there once without a single fish,OUCH.But thays muskie fishing and can happen anywere.Bob GO BIRDS

well,I would have to say that my favorite body of water is the kiddy pond.what the hell am I saying?the only thing this lake has is fish.big fat fish!other than that its structure less.I can say that I have a body of water persay.what I do have are fovorable bodies of water during different seasons of the year.I do prefer fishing rivers over lakes only because they are more predictable and easy to read.although most of my fishing is done on lakes becease they are better at certian times of year.

Bob, sounds like Chataqua is an awesome lake! How many fish did you catch on your best day, and how big was your biggest? I wish I could make the Cave run with you guys, but I'll be thrashing the Big D on the weekends in March, unless the Susky is ice free, in which case I'll be headed for the North Branch.

D,my big fish from there was a 50'er that followed a reefhog just before dark, and at the last minute i decided, the next morning,to go back and fish the same weedbed one more time instead of leaving to go home.Got it on a 9" eagle tail.My best day was a 4 fish morning.38",44",44"and a 47".9am-1pm.Then it shut down.

Little hung over and bummed this morning... [[^]

My favorite body of water is still the Nock. My goal is to try as many other lakes as I can so I'm sure that will change. I'd like to hit the thousand islands area soon and I hear nothing beats that so we'll see.

While musky fishing didn't produce any results this year for me at the Nock...the bass fishing was hot. I know I know...why would I fish for little bass? The pick-up tourneys are a blast and the nice thing is that they’re during the week. Something to look forward to while chained to a desk all day. Oh yeah and I'm 8 minutes to the ramp from my house...can't beat it.

I would have to say that the St lawrence river. I havnt fished there in at least 10 years but the lure of big water with the potential to catch world record class fish on your next trolling pass hooked me. And it didnt hurt to have family that live in clayton on the water either. The stucture and places to fish are endless. It is big water but you can fish some nice sheltered areas and narrows in bad weather. You can always catch hammer handle pike or smallies if the muskies arent bitin which wasnt often. even trolling at night in the summer was slow . the fish are scattered in the summer and the guide dont start till October after the fish gather in the deep shoals . Well i think ill have to work on the wife for a fall trip. Musky matt

Pigeon Lake, Ontario

Lots of rocks and weed structure, and most importantly, lots of 30"-45" muskies with an outside shot at a 40# fish.  Both casting and trolling will produce.  It's attached to a bunch of other lakes through a lock system, but there's usually no reason to leave.  Lots of reasonably priced cabins on the lake.  Two ot three guys in a boat can see dozens of follows and put several fish in the boat on a good day.  A bit far for a weekend from SE PA, but the guys from Three Rivers run up there all the time for long weekends.

Probably no world records, but you will catch muskies if you're fishing.

I love both the Susky and the Lehigh, but neither have been very kind to me.

I don't do much fishing out of state, so I'd have to say my favorite place is the Kiddy Pond since that's where I caught my only two muskie and it's local. For bass my favorite is Green Pond which is a private lake in North Jersey I have access to because of relatives there. Great lake for smallies, but has a variety of fish to catch and a lot of them. Clean lake which is also great for swimming.

I like the rivers. The schuylkill, delaware and the susky, although I dont get to fish it as much as I'd like to. Threre is always a good oxygen level in the rivers and because of the current, I think the fish burn off their food faster and are actively feeding more often. Also they are still fishable when the lakes have ice on them, LIKE NOW!
As far as lakes go, I like Blue Marsh in the spring, Monksville in May, Oct. and Nov. and I hope to see good things from Marsh Creek and Beltzville this spring.

I got a question for you guys this week:

If you could only pick three lures to musky fish with what would they be?

In just my first year of musky fishing I would have to say 1- a black bucktail with silver blade. 2- a jointed shallowraider in fire-tiger, and three a perch colored Bulldawg.

That is much eazier to answer than what is your top lure. One would be a bucktail. Not my top lure but it would have to be in there.I like the large eagletails. Also i would have a jerkbait. There are so many good ones its hard to choose but i would say a reefhog...no a manta.a reef..no a mant.Anyway,my third choce would be a twitch bait.My top producer is most likely a 10"Jake with the 9" granny a close second.{i just stared throwing grannys again}Thats it.I dont know what ill do with the other150 baits i have now.Bob [[[

A bucktail, a crankbait, and a jerkbait. The big three for most, I like the Eagletail, its a big bait that gets a big fishes attention, But its a bear to crank all day. Then the crank, a crane bait is a bait that can be cranked down and around structure as well as twitched over and through it. Its easy on my shoulder and can be cranked all day. Then the jerkbait, a reef hawg is a good side to side jerk that is again easy on my arm. Its a good fast twitching bait for warmer water but I like it when the water gets cold. It can be jerked with long pulls or short twitches, but when weighted correctly you can pause it between the pull/twitches and it will stay there so a fish doesn't have to chase it down, looking like a baitfish thats in bad shape and going nowhere fast. I would have to say a jig is a great lure to use also, But I dont use them much because I HATE LOOSING 5-10 JIGS A DAY AT 3-4 dollars a pop!
As far as colors; I like to match some baitfish pattern in clear water with bright or flashy colors in the sun, and darker shades on cloudy days. Black in stained or muddy water or firetiger/orange in dirty water with the sun.
