Well, after fooling around with different materials, I think I finally realized that tying marabou , was much better looking and easier to work with. I'm certainly not in the same category as some of you guys, but nevertheless, here is my latest effort. Give me your honest opinion... Thanks

George, I think that looks good! I tried taking a skirt off a black/nickle lungen tail and adding a purple flashabou skirt just for kicks, hey it's fun to experiment with bucktails. How do you keep the skirt on, and what rubber bands do you use? Is there a tool out there to fix the rubber band? thanks, Tim

Tim,
I tied the marabou on with thread, and then used head cement. I've never tried using the rubber bands, but would like to learn. I really like the purple flashabou...looks great! I tried tying on the flashabou, but it doesn't look good...not full, like the marabou, if that makes sense. How did you put yours on?
Might as well do something while the waters are frozen...

I had to cut off the rubber band holding on the old one then I just put on a small zip tie to hold on the new skirt and gave it a trim with some scissors. Tying and using cement would probably be a better fix (I was just being lazy at the time).
George, please keep posting your lure modifications and ideas, it's always interesting hearing what everyone is up to...

Pineyfishmagnet, if you want to email any pics to rotht1@gmail.com I'll gladly put them up
I just made the "new" bucktail the same length as the one out of the box, probably an 1 inch or so behind the trebile hook.

Piney...first off I don't mean to rude, but what is your name? I'm George. I think making buckys, is sort of personal preference. I don't think there's any real right or wrong. All "your decision"...go wild!!! Thanks for the encouraging remarks . Gives you something to do when everything's frozen!

Seb,
Do you have some sort of "spreader" for the rubber bands? I have seen tools for sale, that supposedly does just that. I'd like to try that method. I tied some flashabou buckys, and I guess, looked OK, but not totally satisfied with the results. If I get a chance, I'll post a pic...

George, I personally just lay out the skirts and use a zip tie instead of a rubber band. I know the tool you are talking about, but I have never used it. I am still new to it so I am learning everyone I tie.. Good luck and let me know how that tool works if you decide to get one. You can probably find one on eBay too.
Here is the link to skirt tools..

Tim,
that is my "concoction"...it's a 8" bucktail with black and silver flashabou skirting with 2 nickel "diamond chipped" willow blades. I chose the willow blades, because I wanted to be able to keep my baits down deeper in the water column. In theory it all sounds good, but unless you hook up...it don't mean a thing...
