Hello All! First post here!

I am a fairly experienced bass fisherman and am VERY interested in getting into Muskies. A friend and I are going to head over to Marsh Creek in a few weeks and I am looking for lure tips (and any other tips!). We both have 7'6 heavy set ups we use for large, California style, swimbaits. We like using big lures so any suggestions? River2Sea Dahlberg series any good (whopper plopper, glide bait?)

Any and all help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!

-Cory

Cory,

Before getting to lures, I'll make the required Public Service Announcement: Make sure that you have good release gear: long nose pliers, hook cutters, big net, etc. Lots of good places to get a list of those things online. Oh, and don't forget the leader for bite protection. Either steel or heavy (>100#) fluoro.

I'll answer the R2S question and let the locals answer about specific lures for Marsh. Here in NM I have been using R2S lures for tigers, mainly because they are available locally and our fish prefer smaller lures. The 7" Ripper (discontinued) has been very good for me, but I had a fish break one in half this past fall. The Wide Glide is also good lure; the 8" is a good size. The Whopper Plopper is like other proptail muskie lures, so it should catch muskies.

With that said, the R2S lures are mass-produced, made-in-China, versions of some classic muskie lures, so take a look at some of the specialty muskie websites to see what else is out there. Those big California swimbaits will probably work pretty well too.

And, your definition of "big lure" will change as you get more and more into muskie fishing....

Good Luck,

Chris

Chris,

Thank you SO much for the info and yes, we have the good and safe release gear. I am very big on fish protection and release so that will be taken care of!

Your info is great--can you point me in the direction of some of those musky websites? I am sort of into the private label/off the popular path lures so count me in!
