OK guys, help me out here. I'm looking for 5"-7" minnowbaits or crankbaits that are neutrally buoyant and suspending, so I can work them down to 4'-6' deep, and pause, and let them sit for a long time without them coming back to the top quickly. Obviously, this is a delicate balance, but most of these lure appear to be designed to float fast so you can back them out of spots.
I have some 8"-9" Warners that do this quite well, but they are bigger than our NM fish prefer and I don't have any smaller ones. With Steve not making very many anymore, this may be a $50 option the next time there's an auction. I have an early Tyrant Czar that does this well, but the newer ones are much more buoyant. The 6" Jakes and Grandmas are way too buoyant. The River2Sea Ripper and the Rapala XR14 are OK, but neither are really muskie lures.
Anyhow, anybody have any favorite lures in this category? I can't afford to order one of every crankbait to figure this one out. I guess my other option is to take a drill and some lead weight to some of these other baits, but I'll probably do more damage than good if I try that.

Mike,
I've been a bit reluctant to go drilling holes in lures, but that's probably where I'm at. I guess another option is the stick-on suspend-strips, but I was wondering if there was anything on the market that had it figured out. A Colorado lure company makes a 4.75" minnowbait where you can add/subtract BB's to adjust bouyancy, but it's a bit undersized for what I want.
The X-Raps suspend awfully well, so maybe I'll spend more time with the bigger ones of those. The Husky Jerks tend to slow sink, so I don't like them as much.
