I've got a couple of lures that need identifying, and I'm sure that there are at least one or two of you up to the task? Both are wood, with the glider being well made and 6" long and the jerk (Suick style) being a nicely weighted 8" long. Any help is appreciated.

The glider is a slammer drop belly.

Top is definitely a slammer and the second is, I think, a Wiley Jerk bait.

I second the vote of Wiley jerkbait for the black one.

Thanks for the help. I checked the Slammer website and there is no doubt that the Glider is one of theirs. The black one is definitely not a T-bone, though the fronts look the same. I'm calling it a Wiley jerk bait, on the strength of identification by two experts (Greg & Chris).

Thank you.

Dieter,

I went out to the garage to find my black 9" Wiley jerkbait, and now I'm not so sure. The front on mine looks the same, but the back doesn't have that notch. Everything else looks right.

It also had an oval "Wiley Lure" on the belly right behind the front hook.

It also has a little bit of a reddish tint below the hookeye and orange eyes, but I'm not sure that will help at all.

Oh, and mine is more beat up.

Thanks Chris!

Any chance of us doing another Susky Musky Safari this Spring or Summer?

D,

I probably won't be around this summer; I have a short trip out your way next month but I'm not sure if I will have time to fish and the weather is always a question mark. If I do get some time, maybe a certain river not far from my parents house. I'll try to catch some of you guys at the Cabelas seminars, though.

Has anyone had any luck using the Wiley Jerk baits? I just got one and I have not used it yet. It seems to be weighted. How deep do they go?

Jay,
I have a couple wiley jerkbaits (and that one in the picture is not one) I don't use them too often but I have had some fish roll on them and miss (probably my fault) but they run down to about 3' to 4' and they have a suick kind of action but without the tail jumping out from side to side.
I like em but don't throw them often enough for some dumb reason.

Jay,

Like Jeff said, they float and run a few feet deep when pulled. They act alot like Suicks but I like them better because they are more stable and don't roll as much because of their larger mass. I've caught smaller fish on them, but a Wiley jerkbait won the Can Am with a 52" on Pigeon a few years back. Fact is, any good jerkbait will catch a fish if it spends enough time in the water and is worked right.

They don't make them anymore, probably because they'd rather concentrate on crankbaits, not because it was a bad lure.

Thanks Chris. Yes I wondered that same thing. How good is the bait since they don’t make it anymore? I figured he make a good crank bait so the jerk bait could not be too bad. Since it was not made anymore I figure to give it a shot. Speaking of Wiley maybe someone can answer a question for me. Has anyone recently ordered lures from the Muskie Thrills site? I was told that is Wiley’s direct site, but I am not sure. Also there isn’t any contact phone info so I can’t call to ask. Let me know if anyone can give me some info on this site.
Thanks
Jay
