I'm planning a Musky Hunt next year, and would like some advice and opinions. I've heard alot about Lake of the Woods and Northern Wisconsin ( Chippewa Flow ). Which would you choose and why, or some other "spot"?
Thanks and hope everyone has a great Holiday Season.

Do you quantity or quality or both?
Going in the spring? Cave Run in March and April give you a good shot at some big fish.
For sheer numbers and a decent shot at a 50" fish, St. Clair in June or July is a safe bet, with 5 fish days common and 12 fish days not unheard of.
I'm sure other members have some good ideas...

There's so many good choices out there.....this is just a quick summary of some places that have my interest:
Kawartha Lakes, Ontario: numbers upon number of fish, but nothing huge (go early summer or fall)
Chatauqua Lake, NY: lots of fish on a good year, but can get choppy with north or south winds (summer-fall)
Lake St Clair, MI/ON: number of fish, but big water so you need to be really careful about weather (summer)
Lake of the Woods, ON: numbers and size of fish, but netting has been a problem lately (summer-fall)
St Lawerence River: big fish, but not great numbers (fall)
Ottawa River: big fish in moderate numbers (summer-fall)
Georgian Bay: big fish, but low density (summer-fall)
Eagle Lake, ON: big fish (summer-fall)
Minnesota Waters: Leech, Vermilion, Mille Lacs (if you go this far, you may as well go to Canada)
Wisconsin Waters: I get the impression their best days are behind them, but could be wrong
Cave Run: best spring fishing in the country
One day I hope to to actually make good on this list. Right now I have too many other things going on and muskies are far away. If I could do anything, I would spend a week or two on big fish water like Eagle, with a few side trips to other lakes with good numbers potential. Many Ontario lodges offer this option, often included in the package.
I used alot of words. In the end, I think if you go with a well-recommended lodge, you will have a good time. Pay attention to the lodges where Muskies, Inc chapters have outings and tournaments for many years. That endorsement says alot about a place.

Thanks guys for all your input. I probably should clarify my request. Hoping to go late September early October. Thanks for all the great suggestions! Probably, what I should have asked , was if it were you that was planning a "Once in a Lifetime Musky Hunt", where would you go? I'm planning to go to the Eastern Sports Show in Harrisburg in February, and hope to get some good info. Again, thank you all!

I've found that very few lodges on muskie lakes in NW Ontario, Wisconsin, and Minnesota attend the Harrisburg show, probably because they are all doing the midwest sports shows and consider that their primary market. There are a bunch of lodges from the eastern half of Ontario that be at Harrisburg, just make sure that you get a lodge that really knows muskie fishing and doesn't just have a picture or two of accidently caught fish.
I assume the Pittsburgh Muskie Expo will be a better bet for finding the muskie trip of a lifetime, if you have the time to go out there. The Chicago show is probabaly the best bet, but I doubt you'd drive that far to buy some stuff and pick up some junkmail.
