I want to make my position on the use of live bait clear .This is not a tactic I recommend and I prefer you using lures . I do use live bait only in certian conditions and I use a quick strike and only while Tiger fishing . I lose more fish then I land and I have never had a gut hook . All this said I am on a quest for a 50" Tiger and I plan to us all I know to get her . I am explaining myself because I no some members disagree and I want to be clear . If you believe that 3 giant trebles are safer and more sporting thats okay with me . I don't want to kill a fish not event a state record . Tom

Thats your opinion I disagree with you and if your saying I am not being fair your are not being fair to me . Your way can not be the only way . How is it not fair ? If it was so easy I would have 50 fish already they don't just jump on the hook . I give everyone respect and alot of guys can only see things one way thats an elitist way of thinking . I don't understand that way so sorry but I have my ways of fishing and you have yours . Tom

Tom,
Instead of Live bait...How about that Ham and Cheese Sandwich..... My 2 cents, you still have to catch that Momma, Nothing with musky fishing is easy ! I would have caution with a "gut hook", but otherwise Go For It !!!
Sometimes you've got to "jiggle' it, and sometimes you've got to give it one big
"jerk"

Tom, I respect your position and opinion. I dont mean to offend you. With your motivation you accomplish tons for this club and we need guys like you.
You are also within PA State Laws, so theres really no discussion.
However, in my opinion, we (MI50) are not just anglers, we are a part of a sportfishing club. The sport and achievement associated with this type of club , in my opinioin, is to deceive a fish into eating something it wouldn't normally eat.
Using live bait, in my opinion, defeats the sportsmanship and fair chase aspect of this "game", and at that point you become, by definition, just an angler.

To think that Tom, or anyone for that matter, is cheating by using live bait is ludicrous. The proper use of live bait is another tactic that is well established in the musky world. Almost every well known guide / musky expert utilizes live bait(i.e. suckers) during specific times of the year. Pete Mania, Gregg Thomas, the Lindner’s, Josh Brovosky, Tony Grant. Are they cheating. No, they are employing another strategy to put fish in the boat. Is it magic? Do they land unbelievable numbers of fish? Absolutely not. There are times when lures will out produce bait. To think that every time you put out a live bait, it is going to get eaten by musky is just plain wrong. If that was the case, there would be no muskies in Marsh Creek given the number of anglers dunking shiners.
If you think that utilizing live bait is not sporting, fine, don’t use it. But don’t criticize a guy who does. To me, a guy who spends the time to catch live, local, natural bait and puts serious time on the water is a better and more diverse angler.
If live bait use is unfair, then I will assume that all the salt water guys(i.e. tarpon, permit, marlin etc) are cheating too since most of them use bait when trolling or casting the flats.
This is just another great example of the miss conceptions of musky fishing. How about everyone in the club catch a bunch of fish before they start spouting what is fair / unfair when musky fishing.

C'mon, leave them alone. They're still trying to deal with the stigma of being reformed bass fishermen.
Besides, if everybody switches to live bait, who's going to be left to use those beautiful lures that they make???

I wanted to talk freely and I wanted guys to know why I do what I do . I think Seb and Todd and very good fishermen and I agree with alot of what they say . Greg is right on as always and thats for helping explain my point . We are all different and as long as your not hurting anyone or any fish I am cool with what ever your opinions are . Thats being said if I was getting my ass kicked like frick and frack I would not draw any attention to myself . You rookies should stay on the porch with the puppies . You don't bring a knife to a gun fight . HaaHAAAHAAAA I have alot of fun with this kind of thing and I can take it and dish it . Have a great weekend and I hope Todd and Seb get some much needed points . I will be fishing and I'm sure Greg will be too . Tom
