I have a Abu Garcia 6500 C3 reel and i was wondering what kind of line and leader everyone uses. I do alot of Northern pike fishing and I can get away without using a leader. Is a leader nessary. and what kind of line and leader does everyone use?

Hey Lucas , I use 80 lbs power pro with 175 lbs strait wire leaders for most lures , seven strand wire leader for cranks and bulldogs.
Use a leader the fish dont mind that its there, why take a chance at a cutoff on a huge fish .

I've purchased a bunch of fluro and steel leaders from this guy: http://www.stealthtackle.net/
Very high quality, decent price and will customize length, components, lb test. I use 130lb Fluro for almost everything except jerks and glides.

I second the 130 # stealth flouro leaders, they are super high quality.

I order them and other gear from this website: http://www.muskytackleonline.com/

They have really fast service and free shipping over $50 orders.

I can usually get several long days of musky fishing from one flouro leader, maybe a few good trips. The thing is, you always have to be checking it for knicks, it's something I've just gotten used to doing. I probably replace the leader before it's ready, but why take a chance.

That's probably not the case with wire and I can see why so many people use it.
