Hi, my name is Bart and I'm new to the site. It has become apparent to me that muskies are hardly the fish of 10,000 casts and in fact are quite catchable with proper location and technique. I have a canoe and would like to float some of our local rivers exclusively for muskies. I have been doing a considerable amount of research and I have some ideas but need some help.
I certainly am not looking for someone to point me to an exact spot but a general idea of certain stretches of productive water. I would like to try the Susquehanna, Juniata, Lehigh, Schuylkill and Delaware river. I live in Oxford and the closer the better but I am willing to travel. Any help would greatly be appreciated in my pursuit of this magnificent fish.

Hey Bart, welcome aboard. I wish you luck in your pursuit.
I do however, hope you use extreme caution when fishing from a canoe. This is not a fish that is easily handled, especially from something as unstable as a canoe. We have a hard enough time with the fish from our boats as it is.
Safety for both you and the fish should be formost in your mind.
Barry

Hey Bart,
Welcome!
Nice to hear someone else is into musky fishing from a canoe. I boated several on my old canoe, it was called the "GEE WIZ". I don't fish from it much anymore since getting a bigger boat. However, I can tell you hands down, the GEE WIZ produced more muskies than my bigger boat, that's just a fact. Small profile, quiet and stealthy in the water, you just can't beat it (especially on pressured fish). My Dad and buddy Ben both caught their first muskies that canoe. Actually Ben and I had a couple of multiple fish days...GEE WIZ!!
I found the best position to do battle with a big musky from a canoe is kneeling in the middle. Obviously have your release tools and camera (if your taking pictures) all set up and easily accesible. I also found that other boater give you a lot more respect on a canoe, probably because they don't want to give a big wake and possibly tip you over. Also, I used sitbacker seats, they are the best.
As far as rivers go, I'll pass along the best advice that someone else gave me. Pick a boat launch on the Susquahana River and figure that particular area out. Find the deepest holes you can and fish em. If possible, find out where the sucker run is throughout the year (then tell me, ha, ha, ha). Talk to the local bait shops about where muskies are being caught.
Good luck and good fishing, {{0} <<<<><<<
