This winter I have seen alot of nice fish been caught ,thanks to phone pics, Facebook, social media etc... Some estimated 30 + lbsers.
Girthing fish is fairly accurate way of getting a weight of fish after release , plenty of muskie sites have a section to type in the girth x length and it will spit out weight .
Please do not use Boga grips to weigh the fish, or Ive seen cheap ass scales on peoples decks hopefully they did not use the to hang fish from .
If you must weigh use at least a decent 50lb scale over the water and just keep the fish in the net quickly weigh the net and fish and deduct the net weight (Beckmans finsaver approx 4.4 lbs) easy and safe for the fish. Good luck and be safe this winter.

I fished with Mark Nicholas this fall and he had what I thought was a brilliant idea for weighing fish in the boat. Get a bathroom scale (I prefer the digital for accuracy) and store it under your console. When you get a fish worth weighing, pull the scale out. Stand on it. Then grab the fish from the net, snap your pictures and stand on the scale holding the fish. The difference between first weigh in ans second is the fish weight.

Pretty sure it's just me being ancient but why does it matter if a fish is 25 pounds , 35 pounds or even 45 pounds ? Unless you are after an IGFA line class record weight seems irrelevant . Then again I'm the old fool that will not take out of water pictures no matter what size a muskie is.
Let 'em go . RIP Jack Burns
