Did it break or did the knot let go? I don't mean to insult your knot tying skills, but I don't think the line would just snap. Even Fireline requests that you tie just a little differently than usual:

Knots to use: FireLine works with regular fishing knots. The best and recommended knot is the Palomar, which delivers 100% of rated strength when used with FireLine. Knots that rely on wraps for strength, such as the Trilene knot, need to have at least six wraps to avoid slippage and leave ½ to ¾ inch tag end.

See if that helps.

Using 65 # and 80 # power pro, I have never had the line break while casting. If the line is checked for nicks, it shouldn't matter which brand you use. Braided lines are Zero Stretch, so any abrupt motion will only be absorbed by the rod. It depends on when, in the cast, the line broke. If, while casting, the lure is straight out and there is a backlash, that is a lot of pressure to put on the line and it could break.

If you hang 5# weights on 65 # line and gradually increase the weight, it will hold (just a guess) 100 lbs. If you drop 100 lbs. at the end of 65 # braid, I would think that it would snap.

It's just the nature of the beast using braided line, but it's still the best way to go.

To help avoid this problem, I would suggest using 80 # test.

It broke right at the knot that's the funny thing the knot was still there it happened on a not that was only 1/2 hour old so I dont think it was nicked but you never know. I was using the knot the show on the box you dbl the line then thru the eye , then grab all 4 line and wrap back down over all four, then put the folded end thru the loop created right above the eye? I dont know I went to a palamar and it didn't happen again maybe I screw up when I tied them :- Luckily I recovered both the lures 🙂

I'm wishin I was fishin
