Treigh,
Appreciate you being considerate of our schedules but this is why you just need to make the date and put it out there. No matter what date you choose, there are always some people who can't make it. Based upon current water clarity "pea soup shit" and surface temps of 85/86 degrees at MC, I say the later the better. You're the man, you decide 8)

Welcome! To be able to fish the tournament you need to have a member fishing in the boat with you. Now if you were to join Muskies inc I'm not sure if there is a time frame in which you need to be a member in order to fish the tournament or not? Someone else will need to answer that. But as far as joining goes, check out http://mi50.com and click join. It's a great group and you can learn a lot!!!

To be honest, mi50 is the ONLY mi club I have found that does not open their tournaments to the public. Something to think about in the future. Quite honestly, I think there's a few that'll be in the tournament that haven't paid dues in some time. Just open the tournament and charge more to non members. It's pointless to keep it private. Nobody else runs tournaments this way.

I think there's a reason it's closed. To celebrate what those involved in mi50 directly and do want to Better the fishery get to spend a day fishing and celebrating what we created with hard spent time
And money. Just a thought as to why closed tournaments
Are
Good to.

I have to agree with Cory, did I just say that? ;D We fish twice a year together as a club event. We often use lures or rods that builders and manufacturers donate to the club as some of the prizes. We like that club members win them. They've put in countless hours to provide muskies for everyone to catch. The general public has every right to fish these waters everyday, for the fish we worked so hard to put there, and they do. I like that we have 1 or 2 days a year for the club event. If we don't do things like this once in while, why bother joining the club? Just sit on the sidelines and let the club members do all the work, go catch the fish and then show up for the tournaments... Sounds like a good deal, where do I sign up :-

All I'm saying is this is the one and only closed tournament I've ever heard of. You can still fish together, along with non club members. And like I said, there's a good number of "club members" who actually are not legit club members. And don't forget, you invite non club members to pay big $$$$ on the lure auctions and schools. Non members bought a bunch of fish. End of rant. Have fun.

I think you make a good point on non-members contributing via raffles and auctions. That's something that we should consider for future events. I don't consider debate and or dialog rants. If things are kept constructive and mature it's actually a good thing for all of us. This thread stayed civil and you made a good point Kenny. Thanks 8)

I thought the only reason we needed to have at least 1 Muskies Inc member on the boat was from an insurance perspective. Maybe that's changed and something we can quickly look into? I don't recall ever having a rule that theses tournaments were closed to non club members, has this changed. One of our goals this year is to boost our membership and perhaps this is a way to do it. Here we have a father and son interested in participating.

The reason is 100% for insurance liability. MI national charges a rate to their chapters for paid members and they are in turn covered for tournaments after signing a release of liability form and other MI events for the year. Non members are not covered and if injured or killed during a sanctioned event could sue MI national. Open tourneys are great but he liability aspect by the promoters is ridiculous. Had our tourney yesterday, only one fish caught on Hopat, hope you guys made out better on Marsh.

Jed, thank you for clearing this up once and for all. It certainly makes sense that MI would only insure members and we wouldn't want to open ourselves up to lawsuits from non-members.
