If anybody gets the InFishermen Mag. Check out the article on live baiting muskies. The state took 36 muskie, (electric shocked) and put them into a small private pond, fished them with live bait, let the fish take the bait for at least 5 to 10 minutes and then set the hook. They said that 3/4 of them swam off strong the other 1/4 didn't make it. The ones that made it still died within the next few months.
Their agreement is that even if you gut hook a muskie and cut the leader off and it swims off strong it is still going to die. They took some of the dead ones and opened them up and found huge hook gashes in the stomach and digestive tract of the fish. This is what kills these fish not always immediatley but down the road that hook is going to get stuck somewhere and start some tearing, as the fish is still eating and digesting other food it rips the tear open more and more to the point of death. It's a great educational article check it out. They also touched upon Quick Strike Rigs being the way to fish live bait. As you guys know it's a much better chance for the muskie. There is also a pic of an enourmous pike on the same page, what a slob. So keep throwing those lures guys and check out this months InFishermen. Later Jeremy
