It is huge and can get very rough. I was thinking of going there but ruled it out because most of the fish, like 99% were caught trolling which i dont care for despite its effectiveness. Its got huge fish, world record potential. Musky season may not be open yet, you may want to check. Good Luck, Gary

Keep in mind that the muskie season doesn't open up there until June, and that Ontario specifically forbids targeting species out of season. It would be tough to enforce targeting northerns vs. muskies though. I guess if you're trolling giant baits over rock reefs in open water, it might be tough to argue that you're targeting northerns.

Did not mean to suggest that you should target ANY species of fish out of season, only that there are new dates and limits for next year.
If you're fishing shallow flats with small gear, small lures, and a spinning reel, you're probably ok. Start throwing bigger stuff, and you will possibly be fined and lose your fishing priviledges in Canada. They do not play around with this, licenses, or numbers of fish kept crossing the border.
We love going there, and would never suggest or take part in any illegal activity that would jeopardize going to our favorite fishing place on earth.
In the spring, you can throw a 3" blue rapala and get snot rockets all day, or drag small minnows on the bottom and pick them up as well.
Good Luck !

Jim,
I wasn't implying that anybody on this thread would be doing something illegal, just pointing out that Ontario is much stricter than the former PA position of "well, the season's closed, but maybe you can fish". There were some issues with MI members in NW Ontario specifically going after preseason muskies that raised some hackles a few years ago.
So, really, how is the muskie fishing in Nipissing? It fell off of the map for a while as a muskie lake, but I've been hearing good things lately.
